Fun Timers Square Dance Club
History of Square Dancing in Oklahoma |
Fun Timers Calendar |
Welcome to fun and great exercise with the Fun Timers Square Dance Club. You will find that square dancing can be one of the best exercise programs you could participate in. We welcome you to our hobby, yes we call square dancing activities a hobby, just like playing golf, bowling, or just playing card games. The difference is that it is a hobby that the entire family can participate in, from the ages of 8 to 85+. It is a low impact exercise involving the entire body. In fact, square dancing is a kind of misnomer, instead of learning dance steps it is entirely just walking in time to the music. If you can walk, you can square dance. During a night of square dancing one can walk as much as 5 miles, while laughing and enjoying participating with lots of new friends. This will also get you out of that easy chair in front of the television. Just ask your doctor which is better for you.
The square dance benefits list can go on and on. You can verify this by going to various websites on square dancing.
When you learn the Square dance movements you can attend other clubs that dance nearly every night of the week. The fun is never ending. It is also a very low cost activity. Feel free to ask questions. We would like to give you a list of the benefits of our and hopefully your new hobby, but first, a brief history of square dancing. It is the national folk dance here in the USA, as well as in most states, including Oklahoma. It is referred to today as the Modern Square Dance.
